Typical Application
Applications for DuPont™ Teflon ® PFA 440HPB include fluid handlingcomponents for critical, high-purity processes like semiconductor,pharmaceutical, and biotechnology, as well as applications wherepurity in the parts-per-billion range is needed. Teflon ® PFA440HPB offers a slightly lower melt flow rate than Teflon ® PFA440HPA, ultimately providing a higher degree of stress-crackresistance.
Description
DuPont™ Teflon ® PFA 440HPB is a special purpose fluoroplasticresin available in pellet form. This resin is a chemically modifiedform of Teflon ® PFA 340 that combines many of the benefits of theparent resin (a relatively high typical melt flow rate of 14) withseveral additional benefits including enhanced purity, improvedthermal stability while processing, and chemical inertness; forexample, to ozonated fluids. Table 1 shows the typical propertydata for Teflon ® PFA 440HPB.
Teflon ® PFA 440HPB is a premium resin with the lowest level ofextractables designed to meet ultra-high purity re ® PFA 440HPB has a relatively high melt flow rate forinjection molding and extrusion processes, and the highest level ofinertness due to stable end group polymer structure. The enhancedpurity of Teflon ® PFA 440HPB makes it suitable for applicationsthat require improved color, lower extractable fluorides, andfreedom from other foreign materials. This product contains noadditives and is designed for hostile chemical environments wherepurity in the parts-per-billion range is needed. Examples are insemiconductor manufacture, fluid handling systems for industry orlife sciences, and instrumentation for precise measurements offluid systems. Compared to other thermoplastics, the high meltstrength and thermal stability of Teflon ® PFA 440HPB can be usedto improve processing rates, combining the processing ease ofconventional thermoplastics with many properties similar to thoseof polytetrafluoroethylene.
Properly processed products made from neat Teflon ® PFA 440HPBresin provide the superior properties characteristic offluoroplastic resins: chemical inertness, exceptional dielectricproperties, heat resistance, toughness and flexibility, lowcoefficient of friction, non-stick characteristics, negligiblemoisture absorption, low flammability, performance at temperatureextremes, and excellent weather resistance.
In a flame situation, products of Teflon ® PFA 440HPB resistignition and do not promote flame spread. When ignited by flamefrom other sources, their contribution of heat is very small andadded at a slow rate with very little smoke.
